Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
CABG means Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery, commonly mentioned as Bypass Surgery. Traditionally this is done using the veins from the leg and one Artery from inside the chest,(aka mammary artery) using a heart Lung machine as the support for Surgery. We do all CABG using the latest techniques called OPCAB( Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass) or sometimes known as Beating Heart surgery, where the traditional heart-lung machine or the pump is not used.
Total Arterial Revascularization
We use two Arteries, both right and left arteries available in the Chest called the Mammary Arteries or sometimes the Artery from the Forearm called the Radial Artery. We make a network of the Arteries like a Y Graft or K Graft and then do the Bypass Surgeries. the advantage of this technique is that the longevity of the Arteries is more than 25 years ( 98% of them are patent beyond 25 years after surgery). But the Veins have very unpredictable patency, some get blocked in one year and some in 3 years and rest in 7 years ( effectively only 50% are working beyond 5 to 7 years)
Endarterectomy
This is a procedure in which the Cholesterol or plaque which has completely obliterated the Lumen of the Vessel and is causing the blockage is removed in total and a New Vessel is reconstructed using a combination of Veins and Arteries. Generally, in this type of disease presents many Surgeons and Cardiologist designate it as a disease which cannot be treated and give them only Symptomatic Treatment.
